Prof Trevor Smith completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne before taking a post-doctoral research position in the laboratories of Prof. David Phillips at Imperial College, London, UK. He returned to Melbourne and held a series of research fellowship positions including an ARC QEII fellowship before being appointed to the academic staff of the School of Chemistry in 2004. His current research interests are in developing ultrafast laser spectroscopy and advanced optical microscopy techniques, and applying these to a range of problems in various areas of chemical, physical, biological and materials sciences.
